Sydmonton | August 31, 1991 | VOBs + smalls
Cast: Ria Jones (Norma Desmond), Michael Ball (Joe Gillis), Kevin Colson (Max von Mayerling), Frances Ruffelle (Betty Schaeffer) Notes: 36 minutes footage. Nice to see how different this is in terms of lyrics, music arrangements, dialogue compared to the 1992 Sydmonton video. Very grainy, a lot of gen loss |
Sydmonton | September 5, 1992 | VOBs + smalls
Cast: Patti LuPone, Kevin Anderson Notes: It’s a proshot. But it’s a very high generation proshot with a massive amount of generation loss and distortion in the picture. The audio’s still OK but not great. Despite stabilisation and colour rebalancing, this still is painful to actually look at if you have any kind of light sensitivity. Act two is better at times, and falls into complete and total dropouts at others. |
London | Preview | June 28, 1993 | VOBs + smalls
Cast: Patti LuPone (Norma Desmond), Kevin Anderson (Joe Gillis), Daniel Benzali (Max von Mayerling), Meredith Braun (Betty Schaeffer) Notes: First Preview - Highlights only. Includes the cut bit where Patti LuPone pretends to be Charlie Chaplin in "The Lady's Paying". Starts from "Hi there Myron" in the Let's have lunch song. Includes most of the songs important to the show. Offers a really good look of the show before all the changes were made. Patti's massive headdress for the finale. Most importantly the sets for example, Sheldrake's office which was later scaled down for the Los Angeles production and Betty's office. A lot of gen loss and audio sometimes a bit fuzzy. |

Cast: Glenn Close (Norma Desmond), Alan Campbell (Joe Gillis), George Hearn (Max von Mayerling), Vincent Tumeo (Artie Green), Alan Oppenheimer (Cecil B. DeMille) Notes: Beautifully filmed with great close-ups. Occasional heads in the bottom of the frame. Some generational loss, and some tracking issues, VHS flicker gets worse towards end, but surprisingly good for its age. |

London | June 2, 1995 | VOBs + smalls
Cast: Elaine Paige (Norma Desmond), John Barrowman (Joe Gillis) Notes: Video strays from the action from time to time and some generational loss, but still a good video and as far as I know the only one with John Barrowman in the role of Joe Gillis. Video begins from Max telling Joe he'll be there if he needs help with the coffin. |

Cast: Betty Buckley (Norma Desmond), Alan Campbell (Joe Gillis), Steven Stein-Grainger (u/s Max von Mayerling), Alice Ripley (Betty Schaeffer) Notes: Good quality for its age, no fuzziness or lines. Has nice angles of scenes and few spotlight washouts. Recorded from the left mezzanine from the fist few rows with full curtain call. |

Cast: Petula Clark (Norma Desmond), Alexander Hanson (Joe Gillis), Michael Bauer (Max von Mayerling), Catherine Porter (Betty Schaeffer) Notes: Includes Michael Aspel surprising Petula Clark during the curtain call for the TV program This Is Your Life followed by footage of the show being recorded onstage and an unbroadcast performance of I Love Paris by Petula & Sacha Distel. Audio sounds a little weird and footage is bit shaky. |

The opening number is blocked on the right side of stage, not really an issue after that. |
